 Grade level: K – 5                    Dates:  Oct. 13 - 20

 Subject Area: Multidisciplinary

 Materials/Equipment:

  • What can we do about overconsumption and pollution? p. 46
  • Overhead projector or whiteboard
  • List examples of  practices for reducing the use of water and energy
  • List examples of  practices for reducing the amount of waste

 Objective:

Given different types of situations, the students will list ways in which they can improve the situation with the purpose of reducing the use of our resources.

 Procedures:

Teacher role:

  • Refer to What can we do about overconsumption and pollution? p. 46 in the small, white binder.
  • Gather materials and plan sequence of lesson.
  • Define reduce, reuse, recycle and give examples for each.
  • Post students’ ideas of good practices for the reduction of water and energy consumption.

Student role:

Explain ways they can reduce the use of water and energy at home. Use Kagan Strategies Mix Pair Share, and Inside outside circle to discuss and brainstorm.

Explains good practices for the reduction of waste.

 Product/Assessment/Evaluation:

Participation in class discussion and final product
