Project Title: Field Trip to Inks Lake National Fish Hatchery
Exploring in Nature!
By:
Our 5th grade classes had the incredible opportunity to visit the National Fish Hatchery at Inks Lake, where volunteers from the Master Naturalists of the Highland Lakes as well as hatchery employees shared their knowledge of local flora, and fauna, as well as the role of the hatchery in protecting native fish species. Students took a hike up the granite hills, learned about the growth and development of fish, in particular, native Texas species, and identified different native wildflowers. They observed the effects of erosion, and the importance of stewardship. They also created a nature print using different native leaves and wildflowers.
