Eagle Scout Garden
By:
Our Eagle Scout Garden is our newest garden, dedicated to our avian friends and planted with native and water-wise plants. This area graces our Outdoor Classroom which contains weather-monitoring instruments, chicks and bunnies, and 4 herb gardens where the students grow herbs for Austin Meals On Wheels and More.
We could not support our Nature Gardens program without Boy Scout Troop 413 and our adult church volunteers. Last year, a Scout installed a 2500 gallon rainwater collection tank and routed plumbing to the bird garden. This year, a Scout rebuilt our Meals On Wheels herb beds and constructed a watering station - complete with 3 antique hand pumps - for the students to use.
At the beginning of the 2011-2012 schoolyear, Troop 413 Scouts installed plants and bird feeders to create an area that has become a centerpiece for observation and enjoyment!
