Nature Curricula

By:

This year, Hunger Task Force hired Adam Romanak, our experienced Natural Areas Manager.  He not only cares for our gardens, Oak Savanna, and grounds, but he also leads students on nature hikes throughout our Oak Savanna trails!  This summer he led 108 Milwaukee Public School students on hikes where they learned about wild edible plants, invasive species, and balancing skills needed to cross the Root River.

Along with their trail exploration, students learned that they should aim to achieve at least sixty minutes of moderate- to vigorous
activity every day.  Each student hiked about 45 minutes – that’s 4,860 minutes of extra physical activity that students were able to achieve through exploring the outdoors!

Next year, about 500 students will be able to explore our rare Oak Savanna and discover the excitement of the nature and conservation.
