Earth Day 2013
By:
We held our Earth Day program on Friday, April 19th at the front of our school. It was a beautiful sunny day to celebrate and show our appreciation for our planet.
We celebrated with K-1 students singing songs they had learned in music that correlated to what they learned in their science and garden class. 4th and 5th grade students read a poem about trees, how they help us and what they give us.
Then we had a tree planting ceremony to honor the memory of a former teacher, Ms. Margaret Caldwell. Ms. Caldwell loved yellow and anything country western, so we chose a tree that had yellow blossoms, and everyone came dressed in western wear that day. Ms. Williams gave a short biography about Ms. Caldwell. Many of Ms. Caldwell's family members were able to attend besides her children.
Ms. Caldwell's children, Christopher and Angelica, Christopher's wife and daughter
Ms. Rocha recited a poem that she wrote that captured the very essence of Ms. Caldwell. It was fun to remember the joy and laughter she always brought to us. We ended the program by singing "The Yellow Rose of Texas".
Everyone had an enjoyable time celebrating our Earth, nature and a wonderful educator.
