Lighting Energy Audit

Saratoga Independent School
Energy Audit

Lead by John Lefner, Director of Operations, in conjunction with Rise Engineering.
The budget for this project was $1500.

In October, our Director of Operations, John Lefner,
contacted National Grid and scheduled an energy audit. Through this audit we hoped to reduce the environmental impact and energy cost related to our school's lighting.

As a result of the audit performed by National Grid, Rise Engineering was hired to replace 50 incandescent bulbs with 50 LED bulbs, effectively reducing wattage per bulb from 75 watts to 13.

Because our classrooms are already very bright (many days we do not even need to turn on the overhead lights!), no alterations were required. Each classroom has compact fluorescent lighting, and large windows which allow a great deal of natural light.

The bathrooms are equipped with motion sensors, so the lights remain off until someone is using the facilities.

Because the amount of work required to improve our lighting was so minimal and we had already taken many steps towards efficiency, Rise Engineering sponsored our school, and we were able to allocate the $1500 budget to other projects!
