We would like to congratulate Ms. Southwick on winning WFAA's Project Green for grades K-5th and becoming one of their 2013 Eco-Educators! We appreciate all the hardwork done by Ms. Southwick and the students as they maintain the garden here at Kramer along with promoting the habit of "living green!"

DALLAS - Catherine Southwick from Arthur Kramer Elementary in Dallas has been inspiring her students to be more environmentally aware, which has made the students more conscious of their actions and their effects on the environment.

She has noticed such a positive change in her students as they develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime.

Last year, Arthur Kramer Elementary enrolled in the Green Ribbon Schools Program, which promotes healthy sustainable living for students, parents and staff. All school activities fall into one of four cornerstones: Health and Fitness, Natural Classrooms, Eco-Campus or Nature Adventure. Kramer was the only DallasISD school to achieve this honor last year.

Among many green initiatives that have been put into place at Arthur Kramer Elementary, Southwick oversees the gardens at the school. This activity has encouraged environmental awareness among students as well as responsibility. They started from scratch and have turned mounds of dirt into beautiful eco-friendly gardens. The students help maintain the beds as well as plant new plants.

And it doesn't stop there. Southwick and her students have big plans for the future. They plan to tackle the issue of styrofoam and its harmful effects on the environment.
