Sustainability Design Project Workshop
By:
The students at Northstar were split into six groups of kids from all age groups, and each group was to come up with a proposal to make our school more sustainable. First, once the groups were split, they were to come up with their personal definition of sustasinability, and identify problems within our school. Once they were done with that, each group was assigned to their own personal classroom to work in and their goal was to come up with a presentation for a solution to the problem. This included finding needed products, researching them, calling companies to help, and preparing a budget.
In between making their presentations, we had two seperate "mini-sessions" in which teachers went more in depth with historical and current sustainability topics.
In the end, each group presented their powerpoint presentations to the student body and special guest judges. Each group came up with interesting and reasonable solutions to the issues at Northstar. Throughout the next school year, Northstar will gradually attempt to adopt the solutions proposed by the students.
