Mile Club
By:
Students participate in a Mile Club on a weekly basis, weather permitting. The purpose of the Mile Club is to help students improve their cardiovascular system and to help them prepare for the Fitnessgram pacer test. Before students start running, they check their resting heart rates using pulse bars. Throughout their run, students are encouraged to check their working heart rates several times so they can distinguish between their resting and working heart rates. Student laps are recorded and at the end of their class, they sign their names on the Mile Club poster they have earned. Mile Clubs include one, three, five, seven, ten and half marathon miles. Each class recieves a bead to place on their shoe laces that is color coded with the mile club poster they sign. They then have a way of showing off what mile club they are in to they friends outside of PE. Laps are kept cumulatively and students do not start their miles over.
