Project Title: Community Clean-up—Keep Pearland Beautiful
Community Clean-up: Keep Pearland Beautiful
By:
In September and April, several students and their parents participate in "Keep Pearland Beautiful." The families come on Saturday morning to clean our designated adopt-a-spot location in Pearland. We enjoy the physical exercise and knowing that we are helping to keep our city clean of litter. This is an event that many families attend regularly.
Results:
September 8, 2012: We had the largest group ever—68 total! This included 29 families with 31 adults and 37 children.
Saturday, April 13, 2013: With 14 adults and 16 kids, the total was 30! 13 families helped to clean the St. Helen adopt-a-spot for Keep Pearland Beautiful.
Clean-up time from 8:15-9:45 (1.5 hour)
How can your school participate in a community clean-up?
- If possible, find a community clean-up associated with “Keep America Beautiful. “
- Our school has an adopted spot to clean twice a year. “Keep Pearland Beautiful” supplies gloves, trash bags, grabbers, and safety vests. The clean-up begins with a breakfast.
- Post the clean-up date on the school calendar and send out flyers with a slip to return. Then you will how many participants to expect.
- Children must be accompanied by parents. This is important because we clean along busy streets.
- Remember to bring the check-in sheet and necessary supplies to the event. We begin at 8:15 after instructions are given.
- Our group poses for a photo at our adopt-a-spot sign.
