Camp Kappe
By:
The 5th graders attended Camp Kappe School of Environmental Education. The students stayed in cabins from Tuesday until Friday. They explored the outdoors, canoed, gardened, learned about energy sources and water conservation, and engaged in team-building activities. Students helped to care for the farm animals. The night hike on Tuesday was a great way to star-gaze and listen to frog calls. The students learned how to use compasses. The final day activity was a scavenger hunt over the whole camp using compass skills.
Results: 27 students were actively engaged at Environmental Education Camp for four days and three nights.
What your school can do:
Fifth graders across the country attend Environmental Education Camp as part of the Science Curriculum. Many school districts have their own camp. Our students raised money for the bus transportation by holding bake sales. We received a grant from Kohl’s that help to pay for 55% of the student camp fee; families paid for the remaining cost.
