Morning Mile
By:
Beginning in September, our campus started a program called Morning Mile. It is a program where students come before school, 7:15-7:45, and can run or walk as much as they want. A track has been measured and marked where four laps equal a mile. For every five miles, the student receives a charm. We promote this on the morning announcements, our campus webpage, and the classroom webpages. Parents and siblings are invited to walk with the students as well. The activity is run by a parent volunteer with support from other volunteers.
As of Thursday, May 23, 2013 the students have completed 18,242 laps, which is 4,560.5 miles. We have 179 students who have participated. 136 students earned at least 1 charm. 9 students ran at least 100 miles.
Pre-K ran 121 laps = 30.25 miles
Kindergarten ran 2367 = 591.75 miles
1st Grade ran 3,255 laps = 813.75 miles
2nd Grade ran 4,973 laps = 1,243.25 miles
3rd Grade ran 4,862 laps = 1,215.50 miles
4th Grade ran 2,664 laps = 666 miles
As the weather has warmed up this spring, we have seen participation increase. All the students that
participate are recognized on our morning announcements. This is an effective way to promote physical
fitness, fight childhood obesity, and help the students begin their day with movement.
