You and the Environment
By:
The 6th grade Earth Science classes have been exploring our impact on land. The students learned as human population continues to grow, more resources are used and more waste is created. They investigated ways to conserve resources including reducing the use of materials, as well as reusing and recycling materials. One way the 6th grade class helped conserve resources and reduce waste was by making recycled jump ropes. Each jump rope was made using a total of 12 plastic shopping bags. Each bag was cut into long strips and tied together to make our strings to braid into a jump rope. Students reused a total of 264 plastic shopping bags to make 20 regular jump ropes and 1 double Dutch rope. The students had a great time making the ropes and participated in a jump rope competition. This was a learning experience that they really jumped into!
