Digging Deeper In the Curriculum
By:
REAL School Gardens held a Digging Deeper in the Curriculum Workshop on September 14, 2013 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at Gabe P. Allen in Dallas. They offered 8 sessions, and you could choose 4 to attend.
The sessions were:
*Find Your Center: Student Driven Inquiry in the Outdoor Classroom
*Engaging the Brain with Your Outdoor Classroom
*Turning Garbage into Gold: Composting Tips and Teaching
*Don't Sweat It: Strategies for Stress Free Gardening
*P.L.A.N.T.S. Need Cooperative Learning
*Make Measurement Meaningful
*Picture This: Using Cameras in the Garden to Develop Literacy
*Meet Your Perennials: Getting to Know the Plants that Call Your Garden Home
Mr. Renold Bodden, 4/5 science teacher, Ms. Ietha Barrett, TAG teacher and Ms. Cathy Southwick, garden teacher all attended and took away ideas and knowledge they could incorporate into their lessons for their students.
They also helped to update and maintain garden areas and walkways at the school. We learn through doing, so the hands on activities got our brains thinking about what we wanted and needed to do at our school. Great day!
