Here at Winfree, we strive to help our students learn and grow into responsible citizens of the world. In order to make sure all of our students get the priviledge of impacting our society, service learning has become a priority in our district. In alignment to Winfree’s Charter statement- “We envision a service learning program that has specific measurable learning objectives. We will provide curriculum that facilitates classroom learning in the area of active political citizenship. A goal for this program will be to promote civic responsibility.” In so many words…our students, move together with deliberate planning and action toward a common purpose benefitting them socially, academically, and emotionally. They explore the different avenues of civic responsibility and the connection between their classroom and their community. On our Denton campus, we have taken the district policy and expanded on it's principles with our Adopt-A-Spot program. We went through the proper channels to participate in the statewide "Keep Texas Beautiful" campaign, and adopted a two mile stretch of road here in Denton. Monthly our students who want extra service learning experience come out, pick up the roadside trash and help keep our community AND our EARTH beautiful! |
