On September 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., our students took part in the 2nd Annual JAM World Record Event. We joined people all over the world to reach a world record of 3 million JAMmers jamming at the same time. JAM World Record is a FUN campaign to rally EVERYONE to pause and take Just A Minute for a fitness break. The campaign is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of making activity a daily habit and ensuring kids learn healthy habits at a young age. Our students and staff enjoyed the event so much that we decided to incorporate JAM into our schedule every Wednesday at 10:00. It is fun to let loose in the middle of our school week and reactivate our energy to help us focus on our work. Teachers are encouraged to hold a JAM session when they see that their students need to get the wiggles out and release a burst of energy which will hopefully help them focus better on their work.
Our students also continue being active every day with our Green Hour Play project that we started 2 years ago. Students are required to be active at least 60 minutes every day. They record their minutes daily on their calendar and add the time up at the end of the month. Their calendars are turned in monthly for a PE project grade. The program is explained in detail in our 2011 and 2012 activities.
At 10:00, EVERYONE stops wherever they are, and they JAM to the song on our PA.
The JAM organization provides a song with a routine to follow on their website.
We JAM in our hallways, classrooms and offices.
It is one time a week that we can all dance and move together!
We like to "Move it! Move it!" FUN, FUN, FUN!
