Milkweed Patch

Last fall, the third grade class planted the milkweed sprouts that we'd tended.  A protected nook by the music room became a nursery for Monarch and Queen butterflies and Milkweed Bugs.  Preschoolers inspected the garden last spring and counted larva to report on JourneyNorth.

This fall fifth graders completed insect counts and raised Monarch larva for MonarchWatch.  We tagged them once they'd hatched.  We were fortunate to capture a larva transitioning into chrysalis stage:
