Second grade is all about the Natural classrooms! In the fall they finish Their rocks and soil unit with a rock museum. They plant and provide upkeep for butterfly gardens, vegetable gardens, and individual potted plants through out the year. Miss Kromer's class worked for 6 weeks with a master gardener to create a second butterfly garden, study migration habits of monarchs, and even ate bugs! The entire second grade studied and observed they lifecycle of their own personal painted lady caterpillar. Two classes also had ant farms for observations. They ended the butterfly unit with a butterfly festival. At the festival students released butterflies, did life cycle crafts, shared their insect models and powerpoints, and enjoyed the beautiful gardens with plenty of nectar plants.
