Natural Bridge Caverns

By:

The 2nd grade students spent a fantastic day at one of the largest caverns within the state of Texas,  Natural Bridge Caverns in San Antonio, Texas.  The students walked a half mile and 180 feet below ground through different layers of limestone, a sedimentary rock.  They learned all about stalagmites, stalactites, flowstones, chandeliers and soda straw formation.  They learned about the history of the caverns and the effects of weathering, erosion and deposition on the natural landscape.  They also learned about how water has shaped the Earth.  It was a fantastic adventure where students were able to interact with the guides and even touch certain rocks within the cavern.  Afterwards, they ate lunch and played on the dinosaur playground.
