Wooten Garden

By:

In 2008, Texas Action for Healthy Kids organized a partnership of civic organizations and funders to established the first nature playground in Austin.  Designed by TBG Partners, the landscape architects that designed the Dell Children's Hospital Healing Gardens, the park's mission is to improve the schools environment for physical activity and nutrition.  Surveys of Wooten faculty and neighborhood members identified needs, and a landscape was developed that is conducive to teaching, interacting and socializing.

Trails were built, trees planted by Austin TreeFolks, and a garden area constructed by neighborhood volunteers, Boy Scout Troop 413, Redeemer students and church members.

This year, Redeemer's EcoHeroes teamed up with Mary Hilton's Wooten students to plant herbs and butterfly plants provided by a grant from Keep Austin Beautiful.  The 2 classes shared lessons, chores, picnics and delightful times with our bunnies and quail.  This partnership will continue!
