NC Green School of Excellence
By:
Rainbow Community School recently got recognized as the first North Carolina Green School of Excellence. There are three tiers of recognition: NC Green School of Quality, NC Green School of Promise and NC Green School of Excellence. No other school in the state has achieved this honor.
To achieve this distinction, Rainbow was able to prove that it is a green school in the following five areas: curriculum integration, school sustainability, innovation, culture and community, and healthy schools.
The NC Green Schools committee came to Rainbow where we held an all-school celebration to receive this award. Local news agencies were also present.
The first grade class sang a song about the Water Cycle.
The entire school gathered at our outdoor stage to listen to the first grade song and later, sixth graders shared various poems on nature.
After the celebration, the director of NC Green Schools, Robin Cape and Rainbow's Executive Director, Renee Owen, Cynthia Calhoun (Spanish teacher and Green Schools grant writer), and Kate Ferrel, a fellow judge and administrator for NC Green Schools snapped this photo with their awards:
