Outdoor Classroom

Kindergarten teachers have been working to create an outdoor extension of their classroom that contains developmentally appropriate play and learning areas.  The classroom currently contains:

raised bed gardens, strawberry gardens, and potted plants

a circle area for meeting, with logs for children to sit on

a climbing/balancing area with branch balance beams

a bridge to explore around

a fort-building area with natural materials

a writing/working area with flip-top benches

a newly-planted pine tree that will, in several years time, serve as a hiding/climbing area

• Classes use the area for both learning activities and unstructured play time!
