Scarecrow Creations
By:
Approximately 75 students in the Justin Elementary Green Team (gardening club) stayed after school to build scarecrow in our school garden. Green Team grades 3-5 meet on Tuesdays once per month and Green Team K-2 students meet on Wednesdays once a month after school.
Students enjoyed bringing old clothes and hats to that help the scarecrow resemble a human figure. Student brought team jerseys, scarfs, jeans, belts, and yarn for hair. The Green Team learned WHY gardens need scarecrows to scare birds away from a field where crops are growing.
There was no cost for this gardening experience the students used reusable materials such as; broom handles, straw, and recyled materials for the clothes and face.
Making scarecrows is a great activity to do indoors if the weather is too wet or cold.
