Sun Dried Apple Chips
By:
Our Summer Camp students went from tree to tree to check which fruits are ripe.
The figs weren’t ripe yet and the pears weren’t ripe either. The apple trees on the other hand...
Murtadha said, “Look! there are some ripe apples, unripe ones, and some new flowers are blooming!”
We found a broken apple branch on the ground which had enough apples to make the apple chips we wanted.
Students learned about organic fruits and vegetables. They learned about the nutritional values of fruits and vegetables.
We discussed how the bumps on our organic apples are OK.
Students also learned that we use the lemon as a natural color preservative
Students learned the procedure of how to make sun dried apple chips. They had a hands on fun experience which will stay in their mind for a long time.
The students juiced the lemons and washed the apples.
The teachers sliced the apples into thin slices.
Students then smeared the apples with lemon juice.
Students put apples on a dehydrator and placed the trays in direct sunlight.
Two days later students enjoyed their own home made organic sun dried apple chips.
Students learned about energy and sources of energy. They learned about the high cost of electricity and how using solar energy from the sun saves money and resources. They also learned about Vitamin D and its importance for the human body!
We are looking forward to sun dry more fruits and vegetables to eat healthy and conserve energy!
