Up-Cycled Products Supplying Teachers with Classro

Every year our school participates in recycling through Terra Cycle and through Texas Disposal Systems.  TerraCycle takes the materials we cannot recycyle in our TDS no-sort recylce bin (paper, plastic, glass).  These items inlcude Drink Pouches, Food Squeeze Pouches, Foil-Lined Energy Bar Wrappers, and Foil-Line Snack Bags.  This year alone, through various efforts at school (see our Project "TerraCycle to Stronger Use in the Cafeteria" and "TerraCycle's Writing Instruments Brigade: Creating Awareness in the Classroom"), we have increased our recylcing wtih TerraCycle to over 200%!  For every 1000 points earned, $100 is earned that can go back into our school needs.

In Spring of 2016, our school chose to purchase up-cycled products through TerraCycle with our 66,000 points earned through TerraCycle.

Cork Board:

TerraCycle collects waste wine corks through cork brigades and wineries. This corkboard combines salvaged, synthetic corks with a wood frame to create a fun way to pin up notes and clear up landfills.

Circuit Clipboards:

TerraCycle's upcycled Circuit Board Clipboards are environmentally responsible because they are made from actual circuit boards that would have ended up in landfills. Every year millions of tons of e-waste are created and only a minuscule portion is recycled.  Continuing the Upcycling Revolution, TerraCycle has begun reusing circuit boards to create new products.
The clipboards are made from pre-consumer waste material.  The circuitry pattern was imprinted on the boards, but actual circuits and wires were not connected, and the boards were not used in computers, so there is not a risk for lead or other hazardous metals.  And, the writing surface is smooth.  The waste was created by off cuts and changes made to patterns making printed boards obsolete.

Messenger Bags and Backpacks:

Every year, billions of drink pouches end up in dumpsters and landfills across America. Working with a brigade of school volunteers, TerraCycle diverts tons of waste juice pouches annually and donates 2 cents to a charity or non-profit for each pouch collected.

Urban Pots:

Made from 100% e-waste (such as crushed computers and fax machines) that would otherwise have ended up in a landfill. These ingenious little pots help you garden sustainably!

The amount of E-Waste being produced in the US is rapidly growing every year. To help offset this loss of resources, TerraCycle is upcycling E-Waste into 8-inch planting pots. The pots are lightweight and nearly indestructible. Plus, each pot is hand-painted by inner-city artists in Trenton, NJ
