Trinity River Project

By:

In order to teach fourth grade children about our watershed, the Trinity River Basin Project was implemented.  Students learned the importance of clean water and how one goes about testing for pH, ammonia. nitrates, and dissolved oxygen.  They identified and explained the implications of an absence or presence of macro-invertebrates, how to test the turbidity with use of a secchi disk, and, through a riparian walk, they learned the connection between the flora and fauna and the river itself.  Their resources were the Texas Parks and Wildlife, Trinity River Basin Authority, and the Texas Wildlife Administration.  They had a book that they used to fill out data from various tests, and they recorded new vocabulary and information.
