Project Title: Green Team
Green Team
By:
STONEWALL GREEN TEAM
This past fall, we revived a Stonewall tradition (garden club) and opened it to a larger group of students. Each month from October - May, Stonewall students could enroll in Green Team and come to the garden once a week for activities related to a particular environmental science concept. Led by science instructor and parent volunteers, the Green Team members learned about water, plants, rocks, eggs, waste (composting, recycling and trash), and other topics. Activities involved gardening, science experiments, outdoor games, and art projects, as well as a weekly quiz (what are the three Rs of waste? what are the three main types of rock? how many chicken eggs are produced commercially each year in the US?) We also led an on-campus trash clean up for Earth Week. Over seven months, we had nearly 300 kids enrolled in the program -- we were always full!
