Garden Work Daze
By:
Whether summer, fall, or spring our community comes together at the request of our dedicated outdoor lab instructor, Mr. Painter. Fortunately over the years a dedicated group will pull weeds, cut back overgrowth, or help with the mulching. In the past couple of years we have been adopted by Wilshire Baptist church to help with the large task of continued maintance.
Students are usually the first, and quickest, to help out with cleaning up as well.
Within the past couple of years we have been fortunate to have parents that decided to add more touches to the garden to help visitors understand the lay-out of the garden and its purpose. These signs benefit the students as well with vocabulary or the students that are hearing-impaired to relate questions to the educators.
Another parent, Diane Hooper, recently donated a sign she painted to give our garden more recognition from the road. We need this exposure since our garden is entirely funded by donations due to budget cuts.
We wanted to add more exposure to the front of our garden with a differnt sign, created by artist Pascale Pryor. She took elements from our garden and incorporated them into iron. Parents came together once again to put this sign up for increased exposure.
Garden work days are fun for the adults and the children.
When summer is hot we just delay the start time and promise to send home fresh vegetables for dinner.
Stonewall Gardens exists because of community support!
