Earth Friendly Renovations
By:
Stonewall Jackson Elementary was opened on September 12, 1939. Due to it's age it is difficult to install energy efficient management. We asked for bond money from our district to implement green opportunities. These included all classroom light fixtures being replaced, motion sensors in the classroom which turn the lights off when no one is in the room, all restrooms were renovated with high-efficiency toilets and hand dryers to eliminate paper. A new water cooler was installed for our air conditioning which shuts off at 4:30 each day and a new boiler that must be manually turned on as not to waste any gas.
To save money and energy, Mr. Painter's next goal is to implement solar panels in the garden to conduct experiments in the garden portable.
With community support, Stonewall Jackson will be the oldest "green" school in Dallas.
