Drinking Water Week 2011
By:
Drinking Water Week was May 1st-7th,2011. Golbow PTA Environmental Chair, Wendy Stare, shared some educational information about our drinking water on our video morning announcements.
First she showed a example of how much potable water was on the Earth by doing the "Drop in the Bucket" demonstration. She then gave examples of what we can all do to protect and conserve our drinking water, like:
Making sure no oil or paint is poured down a drain, have grownup take it to a Hazardous Material Collection area instead.
Watering lawns in the early morning or late afternoon to cut down on evaportation, taking short showers instead of baths, or having their grown up put a water filter on the tap. Here a visual example was given, 1 water filter = 757 water bottles. The kids were astounded on how much plastic waste is produced on the bottles compared to 1 water filter.
