School Gardening

The 4th and 5th graders weed and maintain the school garden behind the school.  Fourth graders also planted vegetables in cylinders and monitored the plants' growth.  Fifth graders learned about Monarch butterflies and the host plant, butterfly weed.  The students observed animal activity in the garden as well (worms, crickets, wasps, bees, aphids, frogs, etc.)  In October the students observed 8 Monarch caterpillars munching down the butterfly weed in the garden.  Wow!  That was exciting!
