Recycle/Waste

Activity- Paper Recycling Program-year round

Purpose-To reduce the amount of waste currently going into our dumpsters, as well as reduce the monthly trash bill that currently exceeds $500.00 per month. For each ton of paper recycled , seven full-grown trees are saved from harvesting.

Who will be involved in activity? This is a school wide activity-grade Pre-K3-8th grades.

Activity-America Recycles Day-November 15, 2011

Purpose-Curbside recycling does not include plastic bags. A plastic bag recycling event will help educate people that recycling plastic bags is as simple as bringing them back to participating stores.

Who will be involved in activity? This is a school wide activity-grade Pre-K3-8th grades.

How will this activity be recorded? Photos

What is the budget for your activity? Zero cost. Bags will be brought back to a local Publix.

Activity- HalloGREEN-October 2011

Purpose-Students in 3rd grade have a lesson on recycling and discuss the importance of recycling. Over a two- week period students are encouraged to bring in a variety of cardboard boxes from home to become more aware of how many boxes are used.

Who will be involved in activity? Both 3rd grade classes.

How will activity be recorded? Photos

What is the budget for your activity? Zero-Parents donated black spray paint, spider webs and neon stickers.

Activity-Electronic Recycling Program-January 2012

Purpose-Recycle Treasure Hunt-To raise awareness for recycling electronics. Students will be introduced to activity with a fun film on recycling.  A point system for each item based on recyclability will be used. The class with the most points earns a free nut day (No Uniform Today), crazy hat or sock day, or ice cream party.

Who will be involved in activity? This is a school wide activity-grade Pre-K3-8th grades.

What is the budget for your activity? Zer0-Fundraiser for school.

Activity-Fall Festival Recycling and Art Contest-November 2011

Purpose-To involve school and church communtiy in caring for God's Creation. Middle school teens will separate bottles, cans, and cups at the end of each night. Habitat for Humanity will collect the cans as a donation and other plastic items will be placed in recycle bin.

Who will be involved in activity? School wide and church community.

How will activity be recorded? Photos

What is the budget for your activity? Zero-Habitat for Humanity will supply the boxes for plastic bottles, aluminum cans, plastic cups.

Activity-Bottle Cap Recycling-February

Purpose-Recycle bottle caps for cancer. A new program that will help tow causes: A cure for the Earth and the long awaited cure for Cancer.

Who will be involved in activity? This is a school wide activity-grade Pre-K3-8th grades.

Activity-Recycle egg cartons-April

Purpose-Curbside recycling does not include styrofoam egg cartons. An egg carton recycling event will help educate people that recycling egg cartons is as simple as bringing them back to participating stores.

Who will be involved in activity? This is a school wide activity-grade Pre-K32-8th grades.

How will activity be recorded? Photos.

What is the budget for your activity? Zero. Egg cartons will be brought to a local Publix.

Energy-Alternative Enery Source

Activity-Future City Team--Meets Weekly all year long

Purpose-This flexible, cross-curricular educational program gives students the opportunity to do the things that engineers do-identify problems; brainstorm ideas; design solutions; test, retest and build; and share their results.

Who will be involved in activity? 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.

How will actitivy be recorded? Photos, research essay.

What is the budget for your activity? $25.00 registration fee. $100.00 for supplies for the scale model and presentation. The goal is to spend as little as possible by using recycled materials.

Pollution

Activity-Students Proposals for Pollution Reduction Strategies-November 1, 2011

Purpose-The students will write an essay and think of creative ways to help our environment. To solve the problem of environmental hazards such as oil spills, chemical waste, pollution, etc.

Who will be involved in activity? 6th grade English/Writing students.

How will activity be recorded? Photos and students work will be displayed on middle school bulletin board.

What is the budget for your activity? Zero

Nature Adventure: (Exploration & Play, Outdoor Skills, Nature Spaces)

Activity-Daily Outdoor Recess- Daily August-May weather permitting

Purpose-Students are encouraged to have a nutritious snack and to participate in physical activities at this time.

Who will be involved in activity? Our four preschool classes have a thirty-minute scheduled recess time between 9:30-11:30 am. Grades 1st-5th have recess time from 10:00-10:15 am.

How will activity be recorded? Teachers take random photos of students for the yearbook or class album.

What is the budget for your activity? Zero cost

Fitness & Physical Education-Fitness Challenge

Activity- Family Fitness and Fun Night-September 26, 2011

Purpose-To stress the importance of exercise and to encourage our students to participate in physical activities. To raise money for our Athletic Department for new equipment to keep the students moving.

Who will be involved in activity? This is a school wide activity-grades Pre-k-8th grades. Parents are encouraged to participate.

How will the activity be recorded? Photos

What is the budget for your activity? Zero. Fitness 321 is donating their time. The money raised will go to the Athletic Department.

Activity-Jump Rope for Heart-Mid February

Purpose-To promote community service through this educational program and to raise money to fund lifesaving research and educational programs. Students will set and achieve goals and discover that they can make a difference.

Who will be involved in activity? This is a school wide activity-grade Prek-3-8th grades.

Purpose-To bring students, parents and church community together and promote healthy habits.

Activity-Earth Friendly Announcements

Purpose-To provide weekly earthly-friendly announcements and encourage students, teacher and parents to recycle and become more aware of ways to go green.

Who will be involved in activity? Our 8th grade students will announce a green tip every Thursday morning and afternoon. The same tip will go in our e-news for our parents. Different members of the green team will provide an updated bulletin board monthly with green tips or green events that are taking place.

How will this activity be recorded? Tips will be included in our e-news. Photos will be taken of bulletin boards.

What is the budget for your activity? Zero. Teachers will use materials available from their classroom.

Activity-Earth Day Celebration-April 16-20 or 23-27, 2012

Purpose-To raise awareness students will partipate in Earth Week Celebrations-free nut day. daily tips, lesson plans and activities.
