Earth Day Celebration
By:
At Billy Mitchell Elementary School every day is Earth Day! We practice being good stewards of the earth and our school every day by recycling paper and bottles, composting our cafeteria fruits and vegetables, being mindful not to waste water in the garden and carrying a recycleable lunch pale to school. When April of each year rolls around, we look forward to celebrating the Earth with a special party at our school garden. This year, Environmentalist Mike Garcia spoke to us about carrying a recycleable water bottle and using less plastic water bottles. He also brought one of his chickens that lays farm fresh eggs for his family every day. We played compost bingo and talked about the merits of creating our own healthy garden soil for our vegetables beds. Chef Edith created a garden salad using only our own school garden crops. It was delicious!
