Go Foods Staff Luncheon
By:
We need to practice what we preach, so we decided to show our students that their teachers are also working to be healthy nutritional eaters. We decided to have a Go Food luncheon. A sign up sheet was placed in our teacher workroom, and teachers found that it took some thinking to decide what would be an acceptable food dish to bring. On Thursday, April 5th, teachers and staff members brought Go foods to enjoy at our luncheon. Students saw the teachers with the food and remarked how good all the food looked.
The categories of Veggies, Salads, Bread, Lean Meats, Legumes, Fruits and Whole Pasta Salad were listed on the sign up sheet.
Veggies that were brought were: greens, carrots, corn, fresh veggies, broccoli, green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes and avocados.
Salads that were brought were: spinach/strawberries, Greek salad, Cobb salad, mixed greens, spinach, Cesar and gorgonzola/pear.
Bread that was brought was: pita bread with hummus.
Lean meats that were brought were: low carb chicken salad and turkey wraps.
Fruits that were brought were: apples, oranges, grapes, and berries.

At the end of the meal, teachers had to pick a fruit for dessert because the usual delicious desserts we would normally have were obviously missing. Our sweet tooth had to be satisfied with a fruit or fruit salad. We found that it takes a conscious effort to eat the right foods and substitute a dessert with something healthy. It can be done, but it takes a lot of thinking on our part..
