Fresh Food For Fuentes Community
By:
Fuentes Elementary partnered with a fresh food coop set up a Kyle community food coop. The project began on October 20, 2012 and continued every other week throughout the year. The coop connects Fuentes families and community with local growers for fresh fruits and vegetables and delivers to our school on Saturday mornings for easy pick-up. The project rewards volunteerism and helps our community obtain fresh, healthy food at resonable prices. Many teachers and area families are already enjoying the benefits of the food coop. Our students also recycle the boxes the food is delivered in as part of our single stream recycling efforts. This project is not only beneficial for our families as a healthy food choice but also as an educational tool as many of our families do not regularyly eat fresh salads or have never eaten some of the vegetables that are included and so learn how to prepare a wide variety of vegetable choices.
