Project Title: Growing Food - Curriculum
Farming and Eating Healthful Foods
By:
The fifth grade does intensive learning about organic vs. inorganic farming and helps
the fourth grade with their botany unit. They all contribute to the community gardens
at the school to enhance their outdoor learning experience.

Indeed, once the 4th grows the plants in the community gardens, they plan a unit
on eating what they have grown and write about their experiences:
In addition, all grades incorporate human/health lessons into their learning.
Beginning in Kindergarten, students learn about good nutrition and head to Sunny Point, a local restaurant, to work in and sample
food from their gardens, in addition to helping with the gardens on campus.
First grade studies the balance of nutrients in foods, then learning about food and household safety.
Third, fourth and fifth grades concentrate on what makes a healthy diet: foods that are good for humans, foods that aren’t so good for
human health, organic vs. organic foods, and much more.

All grades have a human/health component to their curriclum.
